About
I am a mobile engineer in Lagos. I build Cake Wallet in Flutter, I co-founded a Flutter conference, and I have run one business that had nothing to do with software.
Who I am
I am David Adegoke. Online I have been Blazebrain since before anyone paid me to write code, and the name stuck to the site, the GitHub account and the teaching I do.
I have written Flutter for six years. Since April 2023 I have been a Senior Mobile Engineer at Cake Labs, working on Cake Wallet, an open-source, non-custodial wallet. My work there is public: every chain I added, every WalletConnect change, every test suite, is a merged pull request anyone can read.
I am the only Cake team member in Africa, so I also carry the wallet to the events Cake attends across the continent. Lagos, Nairobi, Port Louis, Ouagadougou and Cape Town so far.
Before and alongside Cake I built and then led mobile at Raptures Entertainment, a comics platform, from the first commit in 2021 to leaving the Engineering Manager role in September 2025. Before that, contract work for a Polish consultancy, a Techstars mobility startup in Lagos, and a fintech in the Philippines, all in Flutter.
I studied Mechatronics Engineering at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti. My final-year project was a biometric attendance and admittance system, which is roughly where the habit of building things people touch started.
How I work
Plan before execute. Nothing non-trivial starts before the plan is agreed, and the plan names every file it touches, what it leaves out, the edge cases and the way back.
Root cause first. Reproduce, trace upstream to the mistake, fix that, and say out loud what the cause was. A workaround nobody flagged is a lie by omission.
Review by attacking. The question is not “is this safe?” It is “should this exist?” and “is this true?” I ask it of my own plans before anyone else does, and I get a second reader who has seen none of my reasoning.
Verify the dismissals too. Reporting a finding costs a full trace. Dismissing one costs a glance. So every miss is an unverified negative until someone traces it.
Probe before pinning. A test written from what you believe the code does agrees with the code whether or not either is right. Run it, look at the real output, then write the assertion.
Commit my own work. The words under my name, in a commit, a review or a reply, are mine.
Outside work
I co-founded FlutterBytes, Nigeria’s Flutter conference, in 2022, and I still lead the organising committee. I ran ten live Flutter teaching sessions in 2023 and 2024. I am one of the leaders of the Flutter Lagos meetup and I mentored on two HNG internship cohorts.
For about a year and a half I also ran a spa in Lekki. It is paused, for reasons that had more to do with power and roads than with anything inside the business, and it taught me more about operations than any software project has.
I write occasionally, mostly about Flutter: eight pieces for LogRocket between 2021 and 2023, and a debugging series on dev.to that I am still adding to.
